Torre del Mar is one of the main tourist resorts east of Malaga on the Costa del Sol and is located about half way between Malaga and Nerja. It is the beach resort of the inland town and part of the municipal district of Vélez-Málaga, capital of the Axarquia region, and its population quadruples in the summer months as the tourists flock to take advantage of its long sandy beaches lined with restaurants and bars.

In recent years, the town has hosted the very popular International Torre del Mar Airshow, with many aerobatic displays including those from the Harrier Av-8 and Eurofighter C-16. For music lovers, the town hosts Weekend Beach Festival, and it is getting bigger each year, attracting the likes of David Guetta and the Black Eyed Peas.
